Unbreakable Legacy by DEEP (David Prescott)
From inception to completion, this special glass sculpture took over 60 hours to complete.
DEEP’s rate at which he could work had to slow right down. Every hammer, every chip and crack was strategised and perfectly placed, to recreate this iconic image of Lionel Messi accepting his most recent Ballon D’Or Award.
DEEP had one chance only to get this work of art right. Using one sheet of glass, large enough to do this piece justice, with no back-up if it went wrong.
As the figure of Messi started to take shape, the real challenge lay in the representation of his Ballon Dor award. Its reflective walls bending the areas surrounding Messi as he was being photographed made it extremely difficult to get right. With steady breathing and consistent focus , DEEP did the image a true justice. This was, in many ways, his Everest.
